MCM and Pixe Social: The Social Sharing Dream Team

In the fall of 2013, MCM Comic Con partnered with Pixe Social for the first time to engage and entertain their attendees at their popular events in the UK.

The MCM Comic Con team, organizers of the largest and most popular Comic Con pop culture events across seven cities in the UK, identified Pixe as a potential social marketing partner at New York Comic Con 2013, where the Pixe-powered Photo Booth captured more than 3,800 photos and reached more than 300K people on Facebook.

Impressed by the extensive viral reach delivered by Pixe, MCM decided to make the most of Pixe’s free trial offer promoted to attendees at the NYCC show, and invited the Pixe team to partner as the official London Comic Con 2013 Photo Booth. At this event, attendees shared over 900 photos on the MCM London Facebook Page, live from the show floor. These posts from the Pixe-powered photo booth resulted in tremendous online activity, with 16,919 stories created on Facebook engaging 182,975 people, who viewed the photos a total of 4,430,325 times!

Recognizing that Pixe Social is much more than a photo booth solution, MCM decided to leverage the Pixe Social at all their events in 2013 and 2014. The MCM Comic Con attendees use Pixe Social to keep share their special time and some pretty awesome cosplay with friends and family online, as well as with a huge pool of Comic Con fans on leading social media pages. Attendees love to record a range of emotional and personal experiences in the carefree environment at the MCM Pixe photo booths. In a special moment for both MCM and Pixe, a marriage proposal was captured and shared at the MCM London Comic con. We are honored to be selected as a channel for our users to share the biggest and the most exciting moments of their lives.

Since that first event in London, Pixe has provided a forum for MCM Comic Con fans to share their thoughts and feedback at many subsequent events, spread across different cities in the UK, including Midlands, Birmingham, and Dublin. While the post-show contest for the most recent event, MCM Ireland, is just concluding, the solution has reached over 51,000 people with continued post-show social activity on Facebook.

The Pixe team looks forward to continued engagement and fun at the upcoming 2014 MCM Comic Con shows.

Breaking Down Digital Media Acronyms Part 1

Digital Media is an expansive industry that picks up traits from the worlds of web design, traditional marketing, social media, graphic design, and even business development. This glossary will touch on the most commonly used acronyms, providing a mini cheat sheet to help manage all of the
abbreviations.

SEO: Search Engine Optimization is the process of achieving a higher, unpaid, and organically placed position in the results on a search engine. Search engines such as Google or Bing take many background features like key words, relevance, and new content into account when calculating the placement of a website.

SEM: Search Engine Marketing is very similar to SEO, but SEM is the form of marketing that utilizes SEO. Marketers tap into SEO through researching industry trends, following industry discussion leaders, and working with search engines to send more traffic to websites.

ROI: Return on Investment is the amount of return, be it financial, web traffic, or user engagement, a company receives from devoting resources to a specific project. For example, when a company begins to build a social media interface, the amount of time it takes for their marketing team to create accounts, develop a following, and connect with potential customers is the initial investment. The return on that investment is securing new customers, making sales, and yielding a profit.

RSS: Really Simple Syndication is a condensed and centralized feed containing all relative information to the topic of interest. For instance, if one were looking for the top news stories of the day, a news website would input an RSS feed into their site that is constantly updating the
trending headlines. Many website have imbedded an RSS feed into their sites to track trending industry topics or their social media feeds. Yahoo.com provides an RSS on their homepage that can be personalized to your interests.

HTML: Hyper Text Markup Language is the language used to create web pages. Every web page you view is supported  by a design that is written in HTML. Digital Marketers use HTML on their company websites, content pages, and even designing emails.

PDF: Portable Document Format file is a document that can be easily viewed or printed on any computer software without compromising the original document design. A PDF’s text and images will appearexactly as intended, no matter the receiving device, making file sharing much simpler for digital marketers.

GIF: Graphic Interchange Formats are image files that are compressed, meaning shortened, to reduce the time for downloading by the user. Pronounced with a “J,” you have probably seen countless GIFs on social media sites. GIFs are images that are commonly animated by combining multiple images and typically have a comical caption to accompany the picture. Here are some example of the most popular Internet GIFs of 2013.

CPC & PPC: Cost per click and paid per click are terms used for brands advertising on websites. In developing an online marketing campaign, many companies choose to pay for advertisement on sites that are seen by potential customers. The websites that host the advertisements will charge the company either for a predetermined cost for each time the ad is click or the company can pay for a certain amount of clicks ahead of time.

URL: Uniform Resources Locator is the web address that is specific to each page on the World Wide Web. Every single internet page has a personalized address containing a combination or letters, numbers, and symbols.

Three Organic Ways to Grow Your Twitter Following

We all know that going organic is the latest trend in the food and health industries, but is going organic practical in the marketing industry? Typically established brands shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars on international marketing campaigns, but small businesses may not have the financial standing to push a campaign that large.

Organic Marketing is the process of marketing a brand or product without paying for advertising. It is important to note that organic marketing does contain intent, but it is a more unexpected option. Marketers should focus on creating a natural relationship with your potential customers, especially through word-of-mouth and social media outlets.

Organic marketing is an extremely cost-effective way for small businesses to penetrate any competitive marketplace and one of the best outlets for that is Twitter. It may be a challenge at first, but in 140 characters, a brand can easily reach potential customers with a clear and concise message. With quality content, such as images, tweets can receive up to 180% more retweets and 18% more clicks that bring customers to your brand’s website. Read on to discover the quickest ways your businesses can jump start their success through an organic, unpaid Twitter following.

Follow (the leader)
  • Don’t just copy: As a boutique coffee shop, you should not be starting up your own #tweetacoffee hashtag like Starbucks to get attention, but do start following them
  • Top Ten Brands: Look at the big companies in your industry and start looking through their Twitter feed. How many retweets, favorites, and responses have a single tweet received
  • Keep track: What is the context of their most popular tweets, are they coupons, pictures, or behind-the-scenes insights?
Share the Love
Bing! Bing! Bing! The smartphone equivalent to a hug has now become the notifications from all of your social media accounts. One receives instant gratification in knowing that a follower thinks his or her blog post is as important as they do or that one-liner made one of your friends laugh out loud. So start stroking the egos of those from which you want attention.
  • Follow top industry influencers
  • Interact through replying, retweeting, and sparking conversations to position your brand on the same level as current leaders
Know Your Industry
The voice on Twitter is extremely important when beginning your account. If you work in a very serious field that does not respond well to puns and comedic relief, a campaign similar to that of Charmin may not be the best route for your brand.

Rule of thumb when it comes to witty banter on Twitter is that if it doesn’t work in the board room, it probably won’t work on your Twitter feed. It is best to talk with the leaders and influencers in the company and to understand how to represent the brand on social media. Whether it is simply tweeting brand awareness, industry news & updates, or trying to lighten the mood of financial experts, the voice on Twitter should 100% reflect the goals of the company at every level.

Pixe Social Wins the Prestigious Buyers Choice Award at EXHIBITOR Show 2014

The Pixe team is recently back from a thrilling and successful time at EXHIBITOR 2014 in Las Vegas, NV. Along with lighting up the social sharing scene as the official photo booth solution provider, Pixe Social also won the hearts of the judges in the New Product Showcase Buyer’s Choice competition at this premier event for showcasing exhibits technology!

The New Product Showcase at EXHIBITOR featured some pretty ingenious solutions ranging from 3D holographic booth hosts, unique booth designs & furnishings, and new software applications.

It is an honor for Pixe to be chosen for this prestigious award from this select group of innovators.

The panel of anonymous judges, which included Certified Trade Show Marketer graduates, determined that Pixe had the most innovative product that addresses a much needed industry issue and enhances the role of exhibits marketing professionals. Take a look at some of the judges' comments:

  • Even though the booth was at the back of the hall and their exhibit appeared chaotic, the staff interaction did an excellent job of making me feel comfortable.  Their pre-show marketing did a good job of getting me interested.
  • Staff friendly and fun.  Explained well and took a very plain exhibit and made the product shine through.
  •  It’s really fun. I was super excited about it and thinking of 15 ways I could use it to create a buzz. The social media, gamification, and brand-ability made this really impressive.

As an up and coming startup, getting special recognition from an established brand like EXHIBITOR Magazine was a huge moral booster for us!
Our first little happy dance from this accomplishment definitely wasn’t our last.

During the show, the Pixe marketing team engaged with many leading industry influencers face to face as well as through Twitter and Facebook.  EXHIBITOR 2014 provided the perfect setting  for us to showcase Pixe Social as the perfect fit for exhibits marketing professionals looking to bring a little social media magic in their own booths.

We rounded out our time at the show by gaining over 300 strong leads. Pixe's Business Development Associate, Michael Krantz, noted, “The Pixe Team received an extensive amount of knowledge and experience during the show while networking with some of the most creative and innovative professionals in the exhibits industry.”

Just Keep Pinning, Just Keep Pinning

Since 2010, Pinterest has dominated the visual social media world with its ability to engage users on a daily basis through a constantly running stream of user generated content. At Pixe, we have been using Pinterest for some time now, and yes, we’ve been bitten by the bug. From the first time that one signs in to a Pinterest dashboard, the visual stimuli are irresistible. No matter what engages you, be it food, DIY projects, clothes, new products – you name it and Pinterest has a gallery to keep you enthralled for hours at a length. So how do all of these recipes for distraction qualify as “work” for Pixe?
You may not realize it at first, but behind the scenes, those outlandish photos of cosplay are actually linked to a huge global audience through leading social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Pixe’s Pinterest boards showcase hundreds of marvelous photos from exhibits and events in many different verticals. From Las Vegas to London, we bring our award-winning technology and fun solutions to help add a little extra charm to their otherwise business-like conventions and events.

Our newest Pinterest board, The Best of Pixe Photo Booth, is a collection of some of the most entertaining photos we’ve seen over the past few months. And what exactly qualifies as entertaining? Obviously, the best costumes, use of props (including, foam fingers, wigs, giant silverware, and of course, our very popular blinky glasses) and testimonials are always good candidates for selection. However, it would seem a little selfish if we only paid attention to our opinion, right? That is why we want to see what YOU like. We invite you to visit our new Pinterest board and like the photo or photos that engage you the most. Help us figure out what stands out the most to you!
